Privacy policy
Last updated 10 October 2026.
The Astro Manual is a set of calculators that run in your browser. There are no accounts, and the site has no database. This page explains the few things that do leave your device.
Who runs this site
This site is operated by The Astro Manual, which is responsible for the data described here. For any privacy question or request, write to info@theastromanual.com.
What stays on your device
- Gear profiles and custom gear. Saved in your browser's local storage. They are never sent to us. Clearing site data deletes them, so use Export to keep a backup file.
- Your location. If you allow location access or type in coordinates, they are used in your browser to compute darkness and target altitudes and are remembered in local storage. They are not sent anywhere.
Advertising
The site shows no ads at the moment. If that changes, this section will say which ad network is used and how consent works before any ads load.
Affiliate links
Retailer links in the compatible gear panels are affiliate links. When you click one, the retailer may set a cookie to credit the referral. See the affiliate disclosure.
Third-party services
- Hosting. The web host keeps standard server logs (IP address, time, page requested, browser) for security and troubleshooting.
Fonts and images are served from this site, not from third parties.
Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which tools people use. It records pages viewed, the referring site, approximate location from your IP address (country and city), device and browser type. It does not see anything you type into the tools or your saved gear, which never leave your browser.
If your device is set to a European time zone, Google Analytics does not load at all until you accept it in the cookie banner. If you reject it, nothing is sent to Google. Elsewhere, analytics loads on your first visit. Wherever you are, Cookie settings at the bottom of every page lets you accept or reject, and rejecting deletes the analytics cookies.
The legal basis is your consent where the law requires it, and otherwise our legitimate interest in knowing which tools are useful. Analytics reports are kept for 2 months, then deleted by Google. Google Analytics is run by Google LLC in the United States, which is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, so transfers of this data to the US have an adequacy decision behind them.
Analytics cookies (named _ga) last up to two years. You can also opt out anywhere with Google's browser add-on. How Google uses this data: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
The site does not run a newsletter and does not collect email addresses. If you write to info@theastromanual.com, we use your message and address only to reply, and delete them when the conversation is done.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete personal data held about you, object to its use, or withdraw consent at any time without affecting what happened before. We hold very little: short-lived server logs and any emails you send. Data in local storage is under your control. Analytics data is held by Google and can be managed through the links above.
To make a request, write to info@theastromanual.com. We reply within one month. If you are unhappy with the answer, you can complain to the data protection authority in the country where you live or work.
Changes to this policy are posted on this page with a new date at the top.
